Hachette Ireland
When Hachette Ireland began publishing as Hodder Headline Ireland in 2002 it quickly became one of the foremost leaders in the expanding Irish publishing industry. Now, six years on, Hachette Ireland – the largest publishing group in Ireland – continues to go from strength-to-strength with a vast and growing range of bestselling fiction and a host of sports, music, humour and general interest non-fiction.
Alongside established number one bestsellers such as Sheila O’Flanagan, Deirdre Purcell and Ruth Gilligan, it has launched and developed fine emerging writers such as Karen Gillece, Ronan O’Brien, Arlene Hunt, Andrew Nugent, Roisin Meaney and Eirin Thompson. It has also published non-fiction titles of significant cultural value that have topped the bestseller charts. Recent successes include the 2007 publication of Deirdre Purcell’s Follow Me Down to Dublin and the sharply humorous The Book of Poor Ould Fellas by Declan Lynch with Arthur Mathews. Other notable non-fiction titles include Maura Murphy’s Don’t Wake Me At Doyle’s, Vanishing Ireland by James Fennell and Turtle Bunbury, and Ryanland, Philip Nolan’s journey through the new Europe. HI also boasts a growing list of sports titles including GAA The Glory Years, GAA Confidential, The Road to Croker and Lansdowne Through the Years – the definitive record of Ireland’s national rugby and soccer stadium.
Beginning with a staff of three, which has since grown to seven, Hachette Ireland has strengthened the presence of the Hachette UK Group in Ireland, and will continue to do so over the coming years.
