Hachette Book Publishing India was formally incorporated on May 29, 2007. While HLUK's books have been available in India for many years and indeed some of the imprints are highly respected, the company has never had the fully rounded presence that a company of its stature deserves. The Indian company will be remedying this gap in the next few years. The Indian arm went live on May 7, 2008. The first phase will be mainly operational with a focus on imports but the company plans to start a sustained local publishing programme from 2009 onwards.
